Our neighborhood has two ponds for our residents and their guests to enjoy. The ponds have been stocked with a variety of fish including black bass. The fish are for catch and release only.
As most ponds in our area, the east and west ponds are designed as detention or retention ponds to catch runoff from higher connecting properties, as well as street runoff. For this reason, please do not pour anything into the culvert drains in the streets. This is both against the law (City of Broken Arrow) and it could potentially poison our pond life. This water eventually runs into Haikey Creek.
Many ducks and geese live in and around our ponds and sometimes manage to raise their small families during the spring. As nature is designed, the water fowl are able to find food and thrive on their own in the wild so the HOA discourages any interference by routinely feeding them. This can be hazardous to their health and routine feeding causes grass to die in the feeding areas and pond bank erosion occurs.
A pond management company is retained by the HOA to manage any potential hazardous growth that may occur in the hot months of the year. Both ponds are equipped with bubblers to oxygenate the water for the fish and each have fountains for the enjoyment of the residents.
